Numbers 27:5 So Moses brought their case before the Lord

I used to eat lunch with a couple of friends who were also the football
coaches. Monday lunches during football season were always an interesting time!
On one Monday, after a particularly tough loss, they were discussing what went
wrong. There was a turning point in the game where we had the ball. A play was
sent in, the play started, and within seconds, chaos ensued! The play on the field
looked nothing like the play the coaches had called. When they asked the player
who was responsible why he didn't execute the play, he began, "well, I thought.
He never got to finish that sentence!

We face challenges every day. We have decisions to make every day. Some
of them are trivial and require not much in the way of wisdom. But often, we need
help. Moses was leading the Israelites to the promised land. He had a lot of
responsibility and was a wise man. Still, when issues arose, like the one preceding
today's verse, he followed a proven habit: he turned to God.
We will almost certainly not have a relationship with God like Moses! He
literally heard God's voice! But we do, in reality, have the same opportunity to
hear from God. We can read the Bible. The Bible is God's revealed word. Too many
people say they care about God, and God kinds of things, but never open the
pages of the Bible to find out what He may have to say about a given matter. We
want wise advice. We even want to be wise. Yet, we proceed in our own wisdom.
"Well, I thought.." If we turn to social media to see what's trending, or TV or
movie personalities to see what they would do, or politicians, or horoscopes, or
whatever it may be other than the Bible, we are headed for trouble. (And we
wonder why things turn out poorly!?!)

Solomon once said, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.'
Proverbs 6:10

I have found it to be true that as I read the Bible daily, week-by-week,
month-by-month, and year-by-year, that I more naturally default to His way of
thinking. We all need wisdom. We all face issues. With the Bible in hand and God
ready to hear our prayer, we are well on our way to wisdom!

Blessings,
